Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., stated on social media platform X that the war with Iran has significantly weakened the United States. Massie contended that the current administration has depleted missile defenses, reduced oil reserves, incurred costs for military personnel, inflated consumer goods prices, increased national debt, and neglected domestic priorities, asserting these actions were "all for Israel."

Some of Massie's criticisms echo publicly reported consequences of the conflict. The Energy Department authorized the release of 172 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Additionally, news reports and congressional spending measures have indicated substantial demand for U.S. missile-defense systems and billions of dollars in defense funding.

Massie, who has served in the House of Representatives for over 13 years, recently lost the Republican primary in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District to Ed Gallrein, a challenger supported by former President Donald Trump. In a separate post on X, Massie questioned Trump's foreign policy direction, asking, "Why did he flip to neocon?"

Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who resigned earlier this year in opposition to the Iran war, has also called for a withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region. Kent posted on X that "The Israelis know they can’t fight this war without the U.S., so their goal is to get us on board with more strikes, ground troops, etc., in the hopes that American causalities will sway public opinion enough to escalate into a chaotic, drawn-out war." He added, "Our only viable option is to leave now—President Trump should use this pause in fighting to get our troops out & use quiet economic diplomacy to reopen the SOH & BAM."

The Trump administration has previously defended its military actions as necessary to counter Iran's missile capabilities, cripple its navy, reduce its support for proxy groups, and prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons. The White House has also attributed an agreement aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to "decisive American strength."
