Rep. Lauren Boebert has strongly refuted allegations detailed in an ethics "complaint" that she engaged in sexual relationships with three staffers, including two women. The Colorado Republican, 38, described the claims as a "smear" spread by a political operative with a history of making unsubstantiated accusations against her.
Boebert, who represents Colorado's 3rd congressional district, took to social media platform X to criticize the media for reporting on the complaint. "It’s a scam and you fell for it," she stated in a video message, suggesting that journalists had treated a "fake filing" as news without proper verification.
She emphasized that no member of Congress had formally certified the complaint in writing as being made in good faith, a necessary step for the Ethics Committee to review such matters. "No member of Congress certified in writing that his salacious BS attack was made in good faith and warrants review as required by Ethics," Boebert asserted.
The complaint, attributed to political operative David Wheeler, who leads the group American Muckrakers, alleged relationships with former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, former chief of staff Jeffrey Small, and current chief of staff Raven Finegan. Boebert had previously obtained a temporary civil protection order against Wheeler in 2022.
All individuals named in the complaint have reportedly denied the allegations. Jeffrey Small, who previously served as Boebert's chief of staff, and Raven Finegan, her current chief of staff, have also denied the claims.
