Rep. Jill Tokuda secured the Democratic nomination for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District on Saturday, fending off three primary challengers. She will face Republican state Sen. Brenton Awa in the general election. Cook Political Report rates the district as D+12, indicating a strong likelihood of a Democratic hold.

Tokuda, who is seeking her third term representing the district that encompasses all of Hawaii except Oahu, as well as rural and suburban areas of Oahu, faced minimal threat from her primary opponents despite national trends that have seen other House Democrats unseated in intraparty contests. Her Democratic colleague, Rep. Ed Case, also faced a primary challenge, though Case is considered more moderate than Tokuda.

A notable incident during the primary campaign involved one of Tokuda's challengers, Kirill Basin. Basin was arrested following a physical confrontation on Keawakapu Beach, which was captured on video. According to reports, the altercation began when Basin allegedly threatened individuals after being asked to lower his music.

The situation escalated, and Basin reportedly brandished a knife. Tokuda commented on the incident, calling the video "disturbing" and stating that "any individual, whether you're running for office or a public citizen, you need to be held accountable for your actions."
