Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., said her focus is on the victim following the death of an 18-year-old woman who was found shot dead inside a rental property owned by her husband in Boston.

Police identified the victim as Yoseliani Marte. Her family has stated she died as a result of domestic violence. Boston police have not publicly identified Marte, confirmed the cause of death, or announced any arrests.

"As someone who has done the work advocating, you know, for accountability and healing for survivors of all crimes — yeah, my heart is heavy," Pressley stated in comments to Fox News Digital. "I'm just really centering the victim right now. And that's what we all should be doing."

The victim was discovered Saturday in the Mattapan neighborhood. According to Boston police reports, she sustained a single gunshot wound. Pressley, married to Conan Harris since 2014, was not involved in the incident, according to a spokesperson for her office. The congresswoman extended her condolences to Marte's family and loved ones.

"This young girl, who we didn't know, 18 years old," Pressley said. "I’m sure had her own plans and dreams that have all been cut short."

The property where Marte was found is a two-family residence listed for sale, which neither Pressley nor Harris inhabit. It is unclear if Marte resided at the home.

Marte's mother told Boston 25 News that she believes she knows who may be responsible for her daughter's death and is focused on seeking justice. The manner of death remains under investigation by Boston police.
