A relative of the transgender roommate of the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk said the roommate "hates conservatives and Christians," while federal officials said the roommate has cooperated with investigators and denied knowledge of the alleged plot.
The 22-year-old roommate — who has not been charged and whose name has not been released by authorities — was in a romantic relationship with suspect Tyler Robinson, also 22, the relative told Fox News Digital. The relative said the roommate is in the process of transitioning from male to female and described a change in behavior after turning 18, saying the roommate had become "detached" and "radicalized."
The relative said the couple were "big gamers" and suggested the roommate may have influenced Robinson politically during the year they were together. "Everybody in my family wants justice to be served and wants no part in this and wants whoever is involved in whatever way to have to pay for that," the relative said.
An FBI official, speaking to Fox News Digital, said the roommate had been "extremely cooperative" and claimed she "had no idea" about Robinson's alleged plans. Law enforcement sources previously said Robinson's father turned him in after recognizing his son in surveillance footage released by the FBI.
Robinson, who has been identified in multiple news reports as the suspect, was arrested after the fatal shooting of Kirk at an event at Utah Valley University. Local authorities and federal investigators have been conducting a joint probe; Robinson is being held in a Utah jail where reports say he has been placed under special watch.
Robinson and his roommate shared an apartment in St. George, Utah, where both of their families live, the relative said. Neighbors reported a law enforcement presence at the complex following the shooting and investigation.
Reports since the killing have included additional, varied allegations about Robinson's interests and online activity, and about statements attributed to his partner on social media. Investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive, and no formal links to organized groups have been established in public court filings.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and any potential acquaintances or influences on Robinson. The FBI has urged anyone with information to come forward as the agency and local police work to assemble a complete timeline and determine whether others were involved or had prior knowledge.
The shooting has prompted public attention and statements from political figures and activists, and has underscored concerns about politically motivated violence. Investigators have emphasized that their findings will be guided by evidence developed through interviews, surveillance review and forensic work. As of this report, the roommate remains uncharged and the investigation is ongoing.
