Registered Sex Offender Arrested for Second Time Trying to Enroll in High School as Teenager

A 29-year-old registered sex offender was arrested for allegedly attempting to enroll in a Minnesota high school as a teenage girl, marking the second time he has faced charges for a similar act.

Makayla Craig reportedly submitted an enrollment application for Maple Grove High School, near Minneapolis, claiming to be a 17-year-old girl named Molly from Oregon. School staff became suspicious and contacted the police, according to charging documents.

When apprehended by officers, Craig stated that he had never attended school before and desired to "get the full experience." He also expressed concern about being mistaken for "Makayla Craig," a registered sex offender from Oregon – which he is.

The Maple Grove Police Department confirmed that Craig "never completed enrollment with Maple Grove Senior High School, and he was never present on campus as a student or in any online classes." He faces multiple counts of felony forgery and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

This incident follows a similar event in April 2025, when Craig was sentenced to 40 days in jail for posing as a 15-year-old homeless girl named Madison and attempting to register at a high school in Albany, Oregon, using fake documents. At the time of that incident, he was 27 years old.

Craig became a registered sex offender after being convicted of third-degree sexual abuse involving a minor in May 2023. He received a three-year probation sentence and was prohibited from contacting children during that period.

Authorities have reached out to the Maple Grove Police Department and the Hennepin County District Attorney’s Office for further information.
