Reform Party Proposes Tariffs, Airline Bans for Countries Refusing Migrant Returns
Nigel Farage's party outlines 'Trump-style' measures, including potential visa freezes and a review of refugee statuses, to address illegal immigration.
The Reform party is proposing to implement tariffs and ban foreign airlines from British airspace for countries that refuse to accept the return of their illegal migrants. The party frames these measures as a response to an 'invasion of our country' and aims to bolster its stance on border control.
This initiative follows an earlier proposal from Reform for 'visa freezes' targeting individuals from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Syria who do not accept deportees. The party also mentioned Eritrea, Sudan, and Somalia as potential targets for such visa restrictions, citing significant numbers of visas issued to nationals from these nations.
The newly proposed tariffs are intended for countries that might not be significantly impacted by visa restrictions. The Sunday Times reported that Egypt is one such country being considered. Details of these proposals are expected to be released this week.
Reform leader Nigel Farage stated, "I will not tolerate countries who won't take back illegal migrants. I'll impose tariffs, airline bans and visa bans on any country that refuses. Only Reform will end the invasion of our country forever."
Beyond tariffs and bans, Reform plans to establish agreements with third countries to deport individuals in 'extreme cases' where repatriation to their home country is not feasible or appropriate. Additionally, the party intends to re-evaluate all refugee statuses granted in the five years preceding a potential Reform government's term in office.
