John Draper Witherspoon, the father of actress Reese Witherspoon, was hospitalized on Friday after being found by a building doorman near the pool at his Nashville condominium. He is 84 years old.
A fellow resident reportedly spotted Witherspoon from a balcony and alerted the doorman, who then found him unresponsive on the concrete near the pool. The doorman and building manager rolled him over, and after he blinked his eyes, he was transported to the hospital.
Nashville Metro confirmed to Page Six that a medical incident occurred at the Windsor Tower complex on Friday, resulting in a person being taken to the hospital, but did not release an identity. Representatives for Reese Witherspoon have been contacted for comment.
John Witherspoon, an otolaryngologist and a former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, raised Reese and her older brother, John, in Nashville. His military service included a posting in Germany for several years during Reese's childhood before the family settled back in Nashville after his obligation for the Vietnam War was fulfilled.
