Red Bulls Teen Adri Mehmeti Poised for USMNT Debut Amid Breakout Season

Fayetteville, Ga. — Adri Mehmeti, a 17-year-old phenom for the Red Bulls, is on the verge of a significant career milestone, likely receiving his first senior U.S. national team cap in the coming weeks. This potential call-up comes during a breakout season for the young midfielder, whose calm demeanor on the ball has drawn comparisons to U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) stalwart Tyler Adams.

Mehmeti, who is 17 years old, expressed the magnitude of the opportunity. "It’s a big step for me," he said. "Coming in with all these young guys and experienced guys, being able to learn [from] them, seeing the different characters and how it blends into the style that the U.S. wants to play, it’s been great. It’s a big jump. It’s going to take some time to get used to."

Adams, who himself was called into his first senior camp at 18 after emerging from the same club system, has taken on a mentorship role for Mehmeti and fellow Red Bulls teenager Julian Hall. Adams, aware of their development through the academy system since their middle school years, emphasized the importance of the learning process.

"Every single player that’s got called into this camp has the potential to become a really good player," Adams stated. "It’s about going through that process."

Despite his youth, Mehmeti's technical ability and distribution from central midfield are considered strong attributes. His skill set is seen as potentially complementary to Adams' more defensive style, raising hopes for future midfield partnerships.

"Watching him at the highest levels, you can see the character that he has, the personality. What he’s willing to do with and without the ball, watching him be a role model for me," Mehmeti said of Adams. "Because hopefully one day I can take a similar pathway that he’s taken."

The Staten Island native is still in the early stages of his development, but his early performances suggest a promising trajectory for the USMNT's future midfield.
