Recap: 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Season 2 Episode 5, "Forgive Me, Father"
War escalates as characters grapple with familial expectations, betrayals, and the consequences of their actions in the latest episode.

The Jacobite rising of 1915 is in full swing in "Forgive Me, Father," the fifth episode of "Outlander: Blood of My Blood," as the Battle of Sheriffmuir unfolds.
Colum MacKenzie struggles with his responsibilities as laird and the legacy of his father. While he remains at home with his pregnant wife, Letitia, his sister Jocasta and lawyer Ned Gowan are also present. Meanwhile, Julia is held captive by Seema, who seeks to eliminate Julia to have Henry for herself.
Ellen and Grace camp on their journey back to Leoch. Ellen confides in Grace about Murtagh's feelings for her, and Grace, aware of Ellen's pregnancy, questions the future for Ellen and her unborn child if Brian were to die. Brian and Murtagh reach the Earl of Mar's army, where Murtagh vows to protect Ellen and their child should anything happen to Brian.
At the British camp, Arch Bug and Henry discuss Henry's experience with time travel and the attempts to erase his memory of his daughter, Claire. Arch appears to understand, and the two form an unlikely bond.
Back at Leoch, Letitia blames herself for the death of Janet. Colum contemplates the concept of lineage, while Ned Gowan arrives with news that Dougal has escaped Lord Lovat's trap and joined Mar's army. Colum anticipates Dougal's potential claim to the lairdship if the Jacobites win, or Leoch's protection under Ellen's name if they lose. Colum reflects on his father's affection for Ellen and regrets using her for the clan's security.
Ellen faces a new threat when Robert, son of James MacKinney, confronts her seeking revenge. Grace attempts to intervene but is incapacitated. Robert threatens Ellen with a slow death, but her words persuade him to choose a different path. As he releases them, Balloch strikes him from behind, and Ellen is captured for Simon.
Julia pleads with Seema not to harm William. Seema harbors a desire to raise William as her own and threatens to expose Julia's bigamy to Lovat. In a confrontation, Julia strangles Seema to death and finds William unharmed.
Jocasta expresses her lingering feelings for Murtagh and relief that her husband, John Cameron, is at war. Letitia voices her anxieties about potential pregnancies, hoping for a daughter to avoid her husband's footsteps.
The Battle of Sheriffmuir sees clan fighting against clan. Despite the British forces' weaponry, the Jacobites, led by Dougal, fight fiercely. Murtagh achieves a notable kill, but Old Rupert dies from a cannon blast. Brian and Henry, on opposing sides, acknowledge each other and spare one another.
Henry, initially planning to desert, saves Arch's life, citing his inability to face Julia or Murdina if he abandoned his comrades. His military skills catch the attention of Captain Lord Gerard Grey, father of Outlander's Lord John Grey.
Following the battle, which ends indecisively, Dougal leads a raid on the Duke of Argyll's supply train. Only Alec returns, reporting that Dougal and Old Angus were captured and the other MacKenzie men killed. Brian, committed to fulfilling his promise to Ellen, sets out with Murtagh to rescue Dougal from Fort William.
Meanwhile, Julia, reading a letter from Henry, grapples with Seema, who intends to harm William. Julia tackles Seema, and in the struggle, Seema dies. Julia, finding William safe with Davina, admits Seema is gone. The episode concludes with Julia potentially facing consequences for her actions, while others seek forgiveness for past sins.
