Rebel Wilson made a glamorous appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, appearing at the world premiere of her film "Girl Group" just days after experiencing significant travel disruptions due to a system failure at London's Heathrow Airport. Wilson, who writes, directs, and stars in the film, was seen on the red carpet at Roy Thomson Hall.
The actress arrived at the festival after being caught in the widespread chaos at Heathrow, which affected an estimated 250,000 travelers and led to hundreds of flight cancellations. She shared videos on social media detailing the disruption, describing the situation with sarcasm as "Heathrow awesomeness." Passengers were seen sleeping on the floor as they awaited updates on their flights.
Other notable figures, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Hurley, were also reportedly at Heathrow Airport during the system failure.
The disruption stemmed from a major issue with the National Air Traffic Services (NATS), which provides air traffic control for 15 British airports. Approximately 1,750 flights to and from UK hubs were canceled on Tuesday alone. NATS chief executive Martin Rolfe was summoned to speak with the Transport Secretary regarding the incident. Disruption was anticipated to last until the end of the month, with passengers advised to check their flight statuses.
