Rebekah Vardy Details 'Pressures' of Footballer's Wife Lifestyle, Cites Stereotypes

Rebekah Vardy has spoken out about the perceived pressures and stereotypes associated with being married to a professional footballer. Vardy, 44, who has been married to Burnley F.C. striker Jamie Vardy, 39, for ten years, discussed these challenges during a fan Q&A on Instagram.

When asked about the hardest aspects of being a footballer's wife, Vardy cited the instability that often comes with the profession, particularly last-minute relocations which can be difficult to navigate with a young family. "There is a lot of instability and the pressure it puts on the whole family. People don't see that!" she stated.

Vardy also expressed frustration with the stereotypes often applied to the partners of footballers, commonly referred to as WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends). "You're automatically stereotyped, people assume you are shallow, obsessed, materialistic and not particularly intelligent!" she wrote. She added that the assumption that privilege removes one's right to be hurt by public criticism is a misconception.

During the Q&A, Vardy also addressed speculation about a potential second series of her family's ITV reality show, "The Vardys," responding with a non-committal "haha maybe." The first series, which documented the family's relocation to Italy after Jamie signed with Serie A side Cremonese, reportedly garnered low viewership figures. The three-part series followed the family's adjustment to life in Italy.
