Long-time competitors on MTV's reality competition series 'The Challenge' are identifying rookie Deb Chubb as a potential breakout star for the franchise. Multiple veteran cast members, including seven-time champion Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio, Michele Fitzgerald, and Tori Deal, have spoken positively about Chubb's performance and on-screen presence.
Devenanzio described Chubb as having "the most unhinged personality," which he believes makes her a natural fit for the show's often eccentric cast. Fitzgerald echoed this sentiment, stating that Chubb "is a Challenge star" and is likely to return for future seasons. Deal noted that Chubb's unassuming demeanor initially masked her competitive capabilities, adding that she "performs really well at everything."
The current season, 'The Challenge: Cutthroat,' is airing on Paramount+, a move that Devenanzio believes will have a positive impact on the series, allowing for more freedom in contestant expression. The new platform also means the show can now feature explicit language, which Devenanzio humorously noted as a benefit.
Fitzgerald and Deal also discussed their initial friction with Devenanzio following the previous season. Despite their past conflicts, they found themselves on the same team early in 'Cutthroat.' Fitzgerald explained that the rapid pace of the game provided no time for reconciliation, forcing them to address their issues quickly. Devenanzio likened the experience to a rapid-fire therapy session, suggesting that being thrust together immediately strengthened their team dynamic.
Devenanzio also recounted an early-season confrontation with fellow competitor Chris "CT" Tamburello. Devenanzio expressed little surprise at Tamburello's reluctance to vote for a stalemate, anticipating his strategy. He described Tamburello's approach as employing "emotional and psychological manipulation" to influence team decisions.
Chubb herself reflected positively on her rookie season, expressing disbelief at the caliber of her teammates. She noted that the experience exceeded her expectations and that she learned from each of them. Looking ahead, Chubb indicated a desire to train more rigorously for future competitions while maintaining her authentic approach to the game. Fitzgerald highlighted Chubb's lack of ego and adaptability as key factors in her successful integration into the team, calling her a "ray of sunlight."
