Nathan Gallagher, a 28-year-old former cast member of the reality television show "Below Deck," has been convicted in Australia of domestic violence offenses, including intentionally choking his infant son's mother, and has fled the country. His police arrest mugshot has been circulated as warrants for his arrest are active in both Australia and Ireland.
Gallagher was due to appear in Burwood Local Court in Sydney on September 2, 2026, for a hearing related to charges stemming from a violent assault on his ex-girlfriend, Gael Cameron, on December 27, 2025. The court heard that Gallagher had already left Australia. Judge Janine Lacy convicted Gallagher in his absence on three charges: assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and intentionally choking a person without consent. An arrest order was issued, allowing police to apprehend him if he returns to New South Wales. The court also extended a two-year apprehended violence order protecting Ms. Cameron.
The facts presented in court detailed that Gallagher allegedly suffocated Ms. Cameron while straddling her in bed, with their six-month-old child nearby. She reported being unable to breathe and experiencing fear and pain during the assault.
Gallagher was granted bail on December 27, 2025, after spending a night in police custody. His bail conditions required him to be of good behavior, not approach Ms. Cameron or prosecution witnesses, and refrain from alcohol and drugs. However, the conditions did not include surrendering his passport or prohibiting him from leaving Australia, a standard practice in New South Wales for individuals with foreign ties accused of serious crimes.
A legal source indicated that prosecutors typically request travel restrictions when a defendant has international ties and a passport. The NSW Police Force and NSW Courts have been asked for comment regarding why such restrictions were not imposed.
Compounding the situation, Gallagher also faces an arrest warrant in Ireland. He allegedly assaulted a man in Dungloe in August 2022 and failed to appear in Dungloe District Court in April 2025 for the criminal charge related to that incident. The Irish charge carries a potential prison sentence.
While Gallagher is not yet subject to an Interpol Red Notice, live arrest warrants are now active in two countries. If he attempts to return to Australia, he would likely be denied bail and face further charges for breaching his existing bail conditions. The Department of Home Affairs stated it could not comment on individual cases but affirmed that visa holders must meet character and security requirements, and appropriate action is taken if these are no longer met, which may include visa cancellation.
Gallagher and Cameron met on "Below Deck Mediterranean" in 2024 and have a son born in June 2025. The reality star is described as "currently offshore."
