Yakir Levi, an Israeli-American reality television personality and former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), died after falling 28 stories from a luxury hotel in Miami, Florida, on Monday night. Levi, 45, was awaiting friends in his hotel room at the Acqualina Resort and Residences in Sunny Isles Beach when the incident occurred.
His friends reported arriving at the hotel's valet and attempting to contact Levi, who texted them to say he was coming down. Shortly after, they heard a loud crash and hotel guests alerted them that someone had fallen from a balcony. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Homicide Bureau is investigating the death as "unclassified." A police report noted "Suicide w/injuries," but Levi's family and friends have publicly rejected this conclusion.
"It's impossible for me to think that he just committed suicide. The day before he was on a boat smoking a cigar, having the time of his life," said close friend Eran Hersh, a DJ and music producer who knew Levi for over two decades. Hersh indicated that Levi, who lived in Los Angeles with his wife and three young children, was in good spirits in the days leading up to his death.
Levi, who emigrated to the U.S. in his early 20s after serving in the IDF, had recently appeared on the reality series "The Americans," which documented the success stories of Israeli expatriates. He had built a successful career as the owner of a multimillion-dollar building restoration firm. His wife and children were vacationing in Israel at the time of his death.
Levi's sister, Lemor Levi, expressed strong disbelief regarding the suicide assessment, stating, "I can say with certainty that Yakir did not jump, and he did not commit suicide. He wouldn't do that to his children." She raised concerns about the possibility of foul play, suggesting, "Maybe they did something to him, I don't know. Maybe someone went into the room. We think he was under threat in the room." The family has also indicated that Israeli authorities are involved, considering a potential "nationalist motive."
Police found shattered glass and blood in room 2804A, leading to the balcony, according to a police report. Levi's body was discovered on a fifth-floor terrace, with a broken watch, a gold chain, and his passport found nearby.
The Acqualina Resort and Residences issued a statement expressing sadness over the event and confirming cooperation with the ongoing investigation. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause and manner of death after autopsy results are complete.
