Reality TV Contestant Tears Up Over Unexpected $20,000 Plastering Bill

The Block contestant Lisa became emotional on Wednesday night's episode of the Channel Nine renovation show after discovering a $20,000 bill for plastering work.

The mounting budget pressures have become a significant challenge for Lisa and her husband, Rosco. The situation escalated when Foreman Dan reviewed their finances and revealed the garage plastering job had cost $20,000, far exceeding Dan's estimate of approximately $6,000.

"Budgeting has been significantly harder this week than before, because the scope of work is so much bigger!" a frustrated Lisa told producers. Overwhelmed by the unexpected cost, Lisa expressed a desire to simply pay the bill and move on.

Foreman Dan advised Lisa, a 34-year-old paramedic, that she needed to negotiate with the tradesmen to lower the price. He stated, "You and Rosco are not in a good spot right now. It is your own fault, you haven't looked after your accounts well enough. For a 40-hour week it should be $6,000... you are paying $20k."

Lisa admitted that she and Rosco lacked experience in home maintenance costs, making it difficult for them to determine if they were being overcharged. "I can't fight a battle I don't understand, and Rosco is dead on the inside now, like passed away!" she said, tearing up.

Despite her distress, Foreman Dan offered reassurance, telling her, "I know it feels bad, but we can work through this. You are not the first contestant to be in this position." He promised to speak with the three tradespeople Lisa had worked with to ensure the charges were fair.

Adding to their financial relief, Lisa and Rosco later won a cooking challenge with their meatball recipe, securing a $10,000 prize that helped them recoup some of their expenses.

Lisa and Rosco are a married couple from Perth who discovered they were expecting a baby during the early weeks of filming.
