Reality Star's JFK Assassination Family Costume Sparks Online Outrage
McCall DaPron, set to appear in 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County,' faces criticism for Halloween attire.
McCall DaPron, a personality slated to appear in the upcoming series "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County," has drawn significant backlash for her family's Halloween costume choice, which depicted the Kennedy family on the day of President John F. Kennedy's assassination.
DaPron, 36, shared photos of the family's costumes on Instagram, showing herself dressed as Jacqueline Kennedy in a pink suit and her husband, Kirk DaPron, as President John F. Kennedy. Their children were costumed as Caroline Kennedy, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Secret Service agents.
The social media personality had her Instagram comments turned off following the backlash. However, prior to the comments being disabled, users expressed their disapproval. "Appallingly distasteful" and "dressing up as a woman on the scariest day of her life" were among the criticisms, according to People.
This is not the first time a celebrity has faced criticism for a JFK assassination-themed costume. Last year, actress Julia Fox received similar backlash for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in a blood-splattered pink suit. Fox defended her costume at the time, calling it a "statement" about "protest" and "mourning." Kennedy's grandson, Jack Schlossberg, publicly condemned Fox's costume, deeming it "disgusting, desperate and dangerous."
"The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County" is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on November 12. DaPron will be joined in the series by original cast member Jen Affleck, as well as Bobbi Althoff, Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, Ashleigh Pease, Jordan McClanahan, Madison Fisher, and Salomé Andrea. DaPron is also the sister of Mayci Neeley, an original star of the "Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" series.
