‘Real Housewives of Rhode Island’ Couple Reflects on Cheating Scandal and Season 2 Prospects

Rulla Nehme Pontarelli and her husband, Brian Pontarelli, stars of "The Real Housewives of Rhode Island," have spoken about navigating the aftermath of Brian's cheating scandal, describing the experience as "extremely difficult" but ultimately something they have "moved past."

The couple, who have two children together, opened up about the challenges of airing their personal struggles on Bravo during the first season of the show. Brian admitted that watching the past events was hard but emphasized their growth as a couple and the strength of their family.

"It’s difficult to go back and watch it, but I’ve grown as a person, we’ve grown together, and the most important thing is that our family is very strong," Brian told Page Six at the 2026 “Virtual Reali-Tea” Awards.

Rulla described the period as the "most difficult chapter of [her] life," adding that "having to live it publicly was extremely difficult." She stressed her authenticity throughout the ordeal, stating, "There was no fabricating, there were no lies. It took a lot just to pick up the pieces and put myself out there again, but it feels good to be back."

Brian, a podiatrist based in Rhode Island, acknowledged an affair that occurred a year before filming began for the show's debut season. During the season, cast members, particularly Jo-Ellen Tiberi, presented evidence suggesting Brian was still involved with another woman. However, the Pontarellis, who married in 2016, dismissed these claims.

The first season also documented Brian's arrest for allegedly placing a tracking device in Rulla's car, a charge he pleaded not guilty to. The charges were ultimately dropped in December 2025.

Looking ahead to the second season of "RHORI," Brian indicated a potential redemption arc for him, noting that the other cast members have been more lenient. "[The women have] gone easier on me, and easier on [Rulla]," he said. "Honestly, I can’t wait for Season 2 to come out. It’s gonna be great."

Rulla, who joined her castmates to accept the VRT Award for “Best Cast,” described the upcoming season as "iconic" and suggested she takes on a more supportive role within the group, referring to herself as "almost the mother of the group."

The first season of "The Real Housewives of Rhode Island" is available for streaming on Peacock.
