Mychal Threets, the host of the "Reading Rainbow" reboot, announced on social media that he is planning to check into a hospital, stating, "I am not okay. Maybe I’ll never be okay. I’m seeking help."

Threets, 36, shared his plans on Threads, a social media platform, on Monday. He added that he would be going to the hospital the following day and expressed gratitude for the support he has received. "In this moment I am safe. By God’s grace," he wrote. "Thank you for your care. I will always love you 💚."

The host, often known as "Mychal the Librarian," has previously spoken about his struggles with depression and anxiety. In January, he told People magazine that while he is still an introverted person, life events have made him more comfortable discussing mental health and his work. He noted that if he had known the extent of his public profile, he "probably would’ve never started posting."

Threets began hosting the "Reading Rainbow" reboot on YouTube in 2025, following in the footsteps of the original host, LeVar Burton. He gained popularity for viral videos that featured book recommendations, inspirational messages, and advocacy for mental health awareness.

Following his announcement, Threets received an outpouring of support from fans and public figures. Actress Yvette Nicole Brown responded to his post, suggesting he seek help immediately if needed. Fans expressed their well wishes, with one writing, "You are loved. Hope you find gentle healing and renewal."

Threets' career began with sharing library-related content online, leading to his role in the "Reading Rainbow" revival. He has credited books, family, friends, and libraries with helping him through difficult times.
