Readers React to Teacher's Fabricated Identity

New York Post readers have shared their views on Hannah Gann, a teacher at The Workshop School in Philadelphia, who apologized after pretending to be Black and Palestinian. Gann, who is a white Jewish woman, has been described by some as the "Palestinian Rachel Dolezal."

One reader characterized Gann as an "as-if personality," suggesting she suffers from self-hate and rage. This reader expressed a shift from anger to compassion, noting Gann's impending embarrassment.

Another letter writer suggested that Gann, by "ditching her privilege to virtue-signal an ideology that is counter to her upbringing," suffers from low self-esteem. This individual also criticized Gann's parents for being "blind to this psychosocial flaw" and called Gann and her parents an "embarrassment to the Jewish people."

A third reader deemed Gann a "fraud" for darkening her skin and creating a "daughter of oppression" backstory. The same reader also raised a point about Palestinian migration to Israel.

Commentary from another reader speculated that the Philadelphia teachers union was aware of Gann's deception but "went along with it anyway because being a black Palestinian is the new radical chic."

A final letter drew a parallel between Gann's actions and the political stance of Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, questioning what is worse: a "woke Jewish woman posing as a Palestinian who hates Israel" or a senator unwilling to criticize antisemites and Israel-haters within his own party.
