The fourth season of Prime Video's "Reacher" has wrapped up, concluding its central plot involving a deadly chemical weapon and setting the stage for the series' continuation.
The season began with Jack Reacher, portrayed by Alan Ritchson, encountering Anna Merrick on a Philadelphia subway. Merrick, initially suspected by Reacher of being a suicide bomber, ultimately takes her own life after Reacher approaches her. This act draws Reacher into a complex conspiracy involving Indonesian assassins, a stolen government flash drive, and a hidden chemical weapon formula.
Unraveling the Conspiracy
Philadelphia detectives Tamara Green and Shaun Docherty, along with Merrick's brother, Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Merrick, become entangled in the investigation. They are joined by Russell Plum, a blogger known for his interest in conspiracies. Reacher also faces interference from federal agents, identified as CIA operatives, who are also seeking the flash drive.
The drive contains a photograph of Congressman John Sampson, a former Army officer, from a covert 1990s mission in Indonesia. This mission, it is revealed, was a cover for the development of a secret CIA chemical weapon. The primary antagonists of the season emerge as Lila and Amisha, two skilled killers who use traditional Indonesian karambit blades. They had blackmailed Merrick to retrieve the photo, intending to replicate and sell the weapon's formula on the black market.
Season Finale Showdown
The season's climax unfolds in an abandoned Philadelphia restaurant, mirroring the conclusion of the Lee Child novel "Gone Tomorrow," upon which the season is based. Reacher, along with his allies, confronts Lila and Amisha and their associates. While his allies work to secure the remaining chemical weapon components, Reacher engages in a brutal fight against the two assassins.
Despite sustaining significant injuries, Reacher ultimately defeats Lila and Amisha. He incapacitates Amisha by throwing her out a window and then uses Lila's own hypodermic needle, filled with the chemical poison she intended to sell, against her. Reacher collapses outside the restaurant after the confrontation.
Renewal and Future Seasons
Prior to the season finale, Prime Video renewed "Reacher" for a fifth season. The upcoming season will be based on Lee Child's novel "Make Me" and will introduce new cast members, including Amanda Ip as Michelle Chang, Jay Baruchel as Chief Buck Bauer, Ciara Bravo as Eunice, and Kevin Durand as Nokes. Production for Season 5 is underway, with a projected release in late 2027 or early 2028.
