Rays Player Celebrates ALDS Sweep With Taunting Gestures
Junior Caminero mimicked a broom and chanted 'da Yankees lose' after the Tampa Bay Rays eliminated the New York Yankees.
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero taunted New York Yankees fans with a broom gesture and a repeated chant of “da Yankees lose” following his team’s American League Division Series sweep. The celebrations occurred after Bryan Baker struck out Trent Grisham for the final out of the series-clinching game at Yankee Stadium.
The TNT broadcast captured Caminero mimicking a sweeping motion while looking into the stands, before joining his teammates. Later, Caminero was seen on social media, seemingly imitating David Ortiz’s signature taunt by shouting, “da Yankees lose!” He repeated the phrase to Spanish-speaking media in the Rays’ clubhouse and again during an interview with TNT’s Lauren Shehadi.
When asked by Shehadi about celebrating the series victory at Yankee Stadium, Caminero declared, “The best! The best! Sweep! Da Yankees lose!” He also told Shehadi that he is “the best in the world.”
Caminero batted .300 during the ALDS series, recording three hits. The Rays secured their series victory against the Yankees on Oct. 7, 2026.
