Rays Capitalize on Yankees Errors for Commanding ALDS Lead

The Tampa Bay Rays secured a commanding 2-0 lead in the American League Division Series, defeating the New York Yankees 5-2 in Game 2. The Yankees' struggles were compounded by four defensive errors, contributing to their second consecutive loss.

Three errors in the first inning allowed the Rays to score an early 1-0 lead. Junior Caminero hit into a fielder's choice that brought in the run against Yankees starter Cam Schlittler. This marked the fifth postseason game in Yankees franchise history with four or more errors.

New York managed to tie the game in the fourth inning when Ben Rice hit a solo home run off Rays starter Freddy Peralta. However, the tie was short-lived. In the bottom of the fifth, the Rays responded by loading the bases and scoring three runs. An RBI groundout by Liam Hicks, an RBI infield single by Chandler Simpson, and a two-run single from Richie Palacios broke the game open for Tampa Bay.

The Yankees' offensive struggles continued when they loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but Cody Bellinger flied out to deep left field, leaving all runners stranded. Ben Rice provided a late spark with his second home run of the night in the eighth inning, trimming the deficit to 5-2. However, it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

The Yankees now head back to the Bronx facing elimination. Game 3 is scheduled to feature Yankees ace Max Fried against the Rays' Nick Martinez, with New York needing a win to keep their season alive.
