Actor Ray Winstone, known for his roles in "The Departed" and Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen," has been filming a new six-part action-comedy series titled "Danger Money" in the Welsh market town of Cowbridge. Winstone, who stars as Alan "Razor" Sharp, an ex-SAS operative, was seen in costume, including military medals and a flat cap, walking through the town.
Cowbridge, located in the Vale of Glamorgan, is serving as a stand-in for a town in Herefordshire for the production. The filming generated excitement among local residents and businesses.
Nadine Price, supervisor at the Ground coffee shop on High Street, one of the filming locations, described the event as creating a "real buzz." She noted that Winstone spent time interacting with locals.
Molly Ridge, a stylist at the boutique Minnie May Closet, encountered Winstone while preparing to film a promotional video. She described him as "really sweet" and complimentary of her dress. Anna Groom, also from the shop, received an autograph from the actor, noting he came across as a "really nice guy."
Local resident Gary Simms shared an encounter with Winstone at the Bear Hotel the evening before filming began. They discussed football, with Winstone reportedly wearing West Ham United joggers. Simms found it "surreal" to meet the actor after recently watching "The Gentlemen."
Winstone, 69, was born in East London and is recognized for his Cockney accent and "hard man" on-screen persona. He described his character, Sharp, as "a bit of a scrapper, surly and getting on a bit."
Winstone's recent television appearances include "The Gentlemen" series on Amazon Prime. He also appeared in a video message supporting his daughter, Jaime Winstone, during her participation in "Strictly Come Dancing."
