Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman was arrested in Georgia following an alleged incident with the mother of his child in the early hours of June 3. New details from a police report reveal that Bateman is accused of shoving his girlfriend, Marissa Crumley, into a wall before attacking her car with a screwdriver while their three-month-old daughter was in the backseat.
According to the report obtained by TMZ, the dispute between Bateman and Crumley reportedly centered on her past, with Bateman allegedly calling her a "liar." Crumley told police that Bateman pushed her into a wall, causing facial contusions. She stated that after being told to leave the property, she took their infant daughter with her.
Bateman then allegedly asked Crumley to meet so he could say goodbye to their child. Police stated that Bateman arrived in a black SUV and attempted to puncture Crumley's tire with a screwdriver. He is also accused of using the tool to strike her car windows. Shattered glass reportedly caused small facial lacerations and contusions, which officers observed on Crumley's face during their initial interview. The couple's infant was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle throughout the encounter.
Bateman's attorney, Jordan Siev, released a statement calling the situation a "personal family situation" taken "completely out of context for sensational reasons." Siev added, "We will let the court process play out and the facts will come out at that time."
Bateman turned himself in to the Walton County Sheriff's Office on the day of the incident. Weeks later, he petitioned the court to lift an active no-contact order, asserting that Crumley had expressed a desire to communicate with him. A judge granted the request, allowing contact under the condition that Bateman complete a court-ordered class and refrain from further violent behavior.
The Baltimore Ravens organization confirmed it is aware of the situation and cooperating with league officials. "We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him," the team said in a statement. "We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."
Bateman was selected by the Ravens in the first round, 27th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Minnesota. He has played in 64 games for Baltimore, recording 157 receptions for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns.
