Raven-Symone Regrets Early Breast Reduction Surgery

Raven-Symone has expressed regret over undergoing a breast reduction surgery at age 15, before she had completed puberty. The actress stated on the podcast Allure Perspectives that the procedure "was hastily done" and that she wishes she had been "stronger to say no."

Symone, who rose to fame as a child on The Cosby Show and later starred as the lead in the Disney Channel sitcom That's So Raven from 2003 to 2007, previously disclosed that she had liposuction and two breast reductions before the age of 18. She mentioned in 2023 that her father had "suggested strongly" that she get her first breast reduction. At the time, she also inquired about liposuction, asking if it would stop people from calling her fat.

"It was just a mess, just being that young and the pain of it all," Symone recalled. She also revealed that she suffered a seizure due to anesthesia when she woke up from the operation at 15. The surgery resulted in scarring and scar tissue that persists to this day. Symone noted that she gained weight afterward and had to undergo further procedures because her breasts were still considered "too big for others' feelings."

Symone, now 40, stated that she was "10 percent" comfortable with her figure during her younger years but now feels 80 percent comfortable. She has been heartened by the body positivity movement, describing it as "this beautiful embracing of the body now that I didn’t get as a young girl."

In recent years, Symone has focused on her health and well-being. In 2022, she shared on The View that she had lost 40 pounds with the help of her wife, Miranda Maday, attributing the weight loss to cutting out sugar. The previous year, she discussed maintaining a low-carb diet and intermittent fasting.

Symone came out as a lesbian in 2013 and married Maday in 2020.
