A lesser yellowlegs, a wading bird native to North America, has been sighted in Jersey for the first time. The bird was observed on Monday at The Scrape at St. Ouen's Pond by members of the Jersey Birds group.

Mick Dryden, from Jersey Birds, described the sighting as "special." Birdwatcher Tony Paintin, who observed the bird, noted its striking appearance, describing it as "about the size of a greenshank and it's got very long yellow legs."

The bird was seen feeding on the pond around 9:00 AM BST and remained on the island for only one day. Jersey Birds confirmed this as the first documented record of a lesser yellowlegs on the island.
