Rapper Pooh Shiesty Complains of 'Inhumane' Jail Conditions, Prosecutors Cite Netflix Access
Federal prosecutors pushed back against the rapper's claims of harsh treatment, highlighting his access to digital entertainment and communication while awaiting trial.
Rapper Pooh Shiesty, whose real name is Lontrell Williams Jr., has claimed that his pretrial confinement conditions are "inhumane" and excessively restrictive. However, federal prosecutors argue that his access to amenities such as Netflix, video games, and extensive email and video call capabilities contradicts these assertions.
Williams is currently held at Rolling Plains Regional Jail in Haskell, Texas, awaiting trial on federal kidnapping and armed robbery charges. His legal team filed a motion on October 15, stating he was being held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day with only two hours of visitation per month. The motion argued that such prolonged isolation carries significant psychological risks, including anxiety, depression, and impaired concentration.
In response, U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould stated that Williams has sent or received approximately 12,000 emails and made 230 video calls using a tablet. The tablet also provides access to video games, Netflix, and NFL football. Prosecutors contended that these conditions do not constitute inhumane treatment and urged the court to deny the emergency motion.
Prosecutors also noted that Williams had not received any visitors since late August. His placement in solitary confinement was reportedly due to his admission of using fentanyl and to prevent other inmates from seeking his autograph. The rapper is signed to 1017 Records.
The charges stem from an alleged January incident where Williams is accused of holding label head Gucci Mane at gunpoint. Associates of Williams reportedly stole Rolex watches, jewelry, and cash during the incident, and one of Mane's associates was allegedly assaulted.
Pooh Shiesty has a history of legal issues. In 2021, he was arrested for shooting a strip club bouncer and has faced previous charges related to drugs, firearms, and robbery. He pleaded guilty to firearms and drug trafficking charges and was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released early in 2025, according to reports.
