Rangers Sign Veteran Center Luke Glendening to Professional Tryout Agreement

The New York Rangers have signed veteran center Luke Glendening to a professional tryout agreement (PTO), The Post has learned. This signing follows the placement of fourth-line center Joe Veleno on long-term injured reserve due to a lower-body injury that is expected to sideline him for three to three-and-a-half months.

Glendening, 37, split last season between the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers. He initially joined the Devils on a PTO and earned a one-year contract before being waived in March and claimed by the Flyers. In 70 games last season, he recorded two goals and seven assists, along with a 52.9% faceoff win percentage.

With over 930 games of NHL experience, Glendening's career began with the Detroit Red Wings, where he played for eight seasons. He has since played for the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Devils, and Flyers.

Under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, a mid-season PTO can last up to 10 days, during which the player is not permitted to participate in games. If another NHL team extends a contract offer to Glendening during his PTO, his current team holds a right of first refusal to match the offer within 48 hours.

Glendening's contract with the Devils last year was for the league minimum of $775,000. The current NHL minimum salary is $850,000.
