Rangers Recall Raddysh, Assign Chmelar After Blowout Loss
The New York Rangers have made a roster move, recalling forward Taylor Raddysh from AHL Hartford and assigning forward Jaroslav Chmelar following a significant loss.
The Rangers continued to adjust their roster Friday, recalling veteran forward Taylor Raddysh from the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and assigning forward Jaroslav Chmelar. This move comes one day after the Rangers suffered a decisive 7-1 defeat against the New Jersey Devils.
Raddysh, who played in 68 games for the Rangers last season and has accumulated 380 NHL games over his five-year career, has started the current AHL season strongly. In five games with the Wolf Pack, he has recorded five points, including a team-leading three goals. Raddysh cleared waivers at the end of training camp and is now being brought back to potentially add a veteran presence to the fourth line, which has struggled with ice time under head coach Mike Sullivan.
Last season, Raddysh scored nine goals and 19 points for the Rangers, seeing time on the top-six lines and the power play. His recall could provide a boost to a forward group that has been impacted by injuries. The team has largely relied on three lines in the absence of Joe Veleno, who is expected to be out for approximately three more months due to a lower-body injury.
Earlier this season, 20-year-old prospect Cole Beaudoin was given a chance at fourth-line center but averaged only 8:47 of ice time in four games before being sent back to Hartford for more playing time. Justin Dowling was recalled on Wednesday and played 7:41 in the game against the Devils.
Chmelar, 23, had impressed Sullivan during his 28-game stint last season and earned a training camp roster spot over Raddysh. He has been rotating with Matt Rempe on the right side of the fourth line to begin the 2026-27 campaign. Unlike Rempe, Chmelar is waiver-exempt, allowing for his assignment to Hartford without being subject to waivers.
