New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin exited Friday night's game against the Washington Capitals after sustaining an apparent injury to his right leg. The incident occurred in the second period while Shesterkin was defending the Capitals' power play.
As Shesterkin scrambled to return to the crease, he fell flat on the ice, and his right leg appeared to bend awkwardly as it struck the post. He was unable to put weight on the leg and was assisted off the ice by trainers, heading directly to the locker room. Rookie goaltender Dylan Garand replaced Shesterkin in net.
At the time of Shesterkin's departure, the game was tied 1-1. Shesterkin has been a key player for the Rangers early in the season.
