Rangers Ascend to Top of Table After Dominant First Half Display
Rangers secured a 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock, with goals from Ryan Naderi and Kevin Kelsy in the first half propelling them to the summit of the league.
Rangers have claimed the top spot in the league table following a decisive 3-1 win against Kilmarnock. The victory, achieved after a lengthy international break, saw the Ibrox club maintain their strong momentum with six consecutive wins.
Manager Derek McInnes expressed his dissatisfaction with the extended break prior to the match, stating that the three-week layoff was not ideal. However, his team showed little sign of rustiness in the first half, securing a commanding 3-0 lead. Ryan Naderi opened the scoring with a header from a James Penrice cross. Kevin Kelsy then doubled the advantage, turning and firing into the net after a deflection. Naderi was credited with his second and Rangers' third goal just before halftime, with the ball deflecting off him from a Djeidi Gassama effort.
Despite Kilmarnock's struggles this season, having conceded numerous goals, they had arrived at Ibrox unbeaten in their last three league fixtures. Manager Neil McCann had made two changes to his side, with MJ Kamson-Kamara and Aaron Tshibola coming into the starting lineup. Rangers, meanwhile, fielded an unchanged team from their previous win against Celtic.
In the second half, Rangers appeared to become complacent, allowing Kilmarnock to gain a foothold in the game. The visitors created several chances and should have scored more than their single late consolation goal, which came from substitute Nicky Clescenco. Kilmarnock's Tyreece John-Jules had an effort flagged offside, and Aaron Tshibola forced an excellent save from Ivor Pandur.
Rangers are now one point clear at the top of the table. Celtic have the opportunity to reclaim the lead if they win their upcoming match. The performance in the second half, marked by a drop in energy and focus, will be an area McInnes will aim to address as his team continues its winning streak.
