Randy Houser Blends Music and Angling at The Champions Tournament
Country star discusses his passion for fishing, a memorable trip with Navy SEALs, and his upcoming performance at a major bass fishing event.
Country music star Randy Houser, known for his touring schedule, finds solace and passion in fishing. "When I get off the tour bus, I'm literally looking for some water to get on," Houser told OutKick OutDoors.
His affinity for fishing began in his youth in Mississippi, where he grew up catching bluegill, catfish, and bass. Today, Houser has expanded his angling pursuits to the Bahamas, where he enjoys fly fishing for bonefish and permit, especially during the winter months.
A Meaningful Experience with the Navy SEAL Foundation
Houser recounted a particularly impactful three-day bonefishing trip to the Bahamas with the Navy SEAL Foundation. He spent time with active and retired Navy SEALs, describing the experience as "priceless."
"I'm a huge supporter of our military and military families and personnel," Houser said. "To get that time with those guys and get them in a space where they're on the water and can relax, and just to hear stories that they wouldn't normally talk about in a different situation, was just priceless." He added, "I got to hear just personal experiences from those guys. I'll remember it forever. It was really cool."
Country Music Meets Professional Bass Fishing
On Friday, October 30, Houser is scheduled to perform at The Pinnacle in Nashville alongside fellow country artist Riley Green as part of The Champions, a new professional bass fishing tournament organized by World Bass Enterprises. The tournament will take place on Old Hickory Lake and features top anglers from the Bassmaster Elite Series and Major League Fishing's Bass Pro Tour, competing for a $3.25 million purse.
Houser expressed his amazement at the growth of competitive bass fishing, noting the emergence of college bass fishing teams and the professional level of the sport. He compared the dedication and resources required for professional anglers to those of professional golfers.
"There's a strong synergy between country music, country music listeners and bass fishing," Houser observed, highlighting Nashville as an ideal location to showcase the sport's evolution. He anticipates that The Champions will draw significant crowds, not only for the musical performances but also for the tournament weigh-ins and overall atmosphere.
He also noted the convenience of the tournament being held in Nashville, allowing him to bring his children to the event, which he mentioned doesn't happen often. Houser and Green, who have toured together, also plan to go hunting when the weather permits.
As Houser prepares to continue his touring career, his connection to the water remains a constant, promising future fishing trips and outdoor adventures.
