Rams Rediscover Identity in Dominant Win Over Raiders

The Los Angeles Rams rediscovered a fundamental aspect of their identity on Sunday, leaning on a powerful run game to secure a commanding 35-21 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. This performance marked a significant shift for a team that had struggled to define its presence in earlier games this season.

Rams head coach Sean McVay emphasized the importance of physicality and establishing the run, a cornerstone that had been absent for stretches of their 4-2 start. "When in doubt, line it up. Challenge your guys to be the more physical team. Then impose your will on the other guy," McVay stated.

The Rams' commitment to the run game was evident in their statistics, accumulating 198 rushing yards on 39 carries. Running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Corum each surpassed 90 yards, demonstrating a dual-threat capability that overwhelmed the Raiders' defense. This sustained ground attack created manageable situations on second and third downs, providing opportunities for the offense to operate effectively.

McVay credited the offensive line for their pivotal role in opening up running lanes and setting a physical tone. "I thought our offensive line was excellent," McVay said. "They had a great demeanor." This improved performance from the line allowed the Rams to impose their will on the Raiders, shifting the terms of engagement.

For an offense often reliant on the aerial game with quarterback Matthew Stafford, this renewed emphasis on the run served to balance their attack. "Any good offense that we’ve had here that I’ve been a part of, you have to be able to do both," McVay noted. "You have to be able to have balance, or you at least have to have the threat of if they overcommit to something, then you have to be able to make them pay."

While this single performance does not guarantee long-term consistency, it provides the Rams with a tangible identity to build upon. "It’s something that we have to build on because this is a long journey," McVay said. "At least now they have something to hang their hat on."
