Rams Cornerback Jaylen Watson Out Multiple Weeks with Dislocated Shoulder
Coach Sean McVay confirms Watson's injury and indicates he won't be placed on injured reserve.
Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson will miss multiple games after dislocating his right shoulder late in the first half of the team's 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. Head coach Sean McVay delivered the update Monday.
While Watson will be sidelined for an extended period, the Rams avoided the worst-case scenario as they do not plan to place him on injured reserve. This designation would have required him to miss a minimum of four games. McVay also noted that Watson has experienced a similar injury in the past.
Watson sustained the injury while defending a Broncos receiver, his right arm becoming tangled. He was carted to the locker room with his arm in a sling.
While a definitive return date has not been set, medical research suggests that football players can often return from a non-surgically treated shoulder dislocation in approximately four to six weeks. However, recovery times can vary significantly depending on the severity, stability, and history of the injured shoulder.
Trent McDuffie, Watson's former teammate and current partner in the Rams secondary, expressed his support, stating he plans to keep Watson connected to the team during his rehabilitation.
In addition to Watson's injury, McVay indicated that tight end Colby Parkinson's availability for the upcoming Week 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles is uncertain due to a shoulder injury. Terrance Ferguson is considered doubtful with an ankle injury.
