Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has tempered expectations regarding the return of key players Myles Garrett and Terrance Ferguson. McVay announced Wednesday that neither player would have their 21-day practice windows opened this week, meaning both will remain on injured reserve for the team's upcoming Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

This news contradicts earlier optimism, including reports from NFL insider Ian Rapoport last week, which suggested Garrett might be nearing a return to practice. McVay emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, stating, "So whatever reports are out there, make sure they're accurate."

Garrett has been sidelined since the Rams' season-opening trip to Australia following arthroscopic knee surgery. NFL rules stipulate that players on injured reserve must miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return. Garrett met this minimum after the Rams' Week 5 loss, but his practice window has not yet been opened. Once that 21-day window begins, the Rams will have to decide whether to activate him to the 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

With McVay's announcement, Garrett's earliest possible game appearance is now projected for Week 9 against the Washington Commanders. Despite the delay, McVay indicated that Garrett is progressing in his recovery and is diligently working through rehabilitation. Garrett's girlfriend, Olympic snowboarding champion Chloe Kim, echoed this sentiment, stating that Garrett is a hard worker and is doing everything possible to return to the field stronger.

The Rams, who started the season with Super Bowl aspirations but have faced numerous injuries leading to a 2-4 record, were hoping for the reinforcement Garrett could provide to their defense. His absence continues to leave a significant gap as the team navigates its challenging schedule.
