The Las Vegas Raiders have finalized a four-year contract with rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, securing their franchise player with a deal worth a fully guaranteed $57.2 million, including a $38 million signing bonus. The agreement comes after a period of anticipation, ensuring Mendoza will be with the team for training camp.

Mendoza's mother, Elsa, expressed gratitude for the opportunity his career has provided, particularly acknowledging Indianapolis and Indiana University for their role. She was interviewed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Brickyard 400, where she stated, "Well, we’re so grateful to Indianapolis and IU because you would have never had this opportunity without this city and without the coaches and without, you know, IU." She added, "So, we’re so grateful, we’re so happy, and IU will always be a part of us."

Mendoza's father, also named Fernando, commented on the contract, describing it as a relief to have the negotiations concluded. "It’s kind of a sense of relief just to get it out of the way," he said. "We knew it was going to happen, but it’s nice to get to work and understand that now he’s got a few weeks before the season starts and focus on what is important, which is his job."

Elsa Mendoza was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2008 and continues to manage the autoimmune disease. Her appearance at the Brickyard 400 and subsequent interview provided the first public comments from the family regarding the contract. Despite her gratitude towards Indianapolis, the focus for Raiders fans remains on her son's commitment to the team for the upcoming NFL season.
