Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Klint Kubiak stated that the team's current roster consists of professional players who are committed to improvement, asserting that there are "no turds" among them.

This declaration marks a departure from the Raiders' historical image, which under owner Al Davis often embraced a renegade persona. From the 1960s through the early 2000s, the franchise was known for acquiring players who fit a rebellious mold, sometimes including those with significant off-field issues or controversial playing styles.

Players like former safety Jack Tatum, nicknamed "The Assassin," whose career was marked by aggressive hits, exemplified this era. Tatum once wrote that his best hits "border on felonious assault." Another notable figure was defensive lineman John Matuszak, who openly admitted to struggles with substance abuse during his NFL career but was a key member of Super Bowl-winning teams. Wide receiver Warren Wells' career was derailed by a rape conviction. The team's anthem, "The Autumn Wind," further reflected this outlaw reputation with lyrics about "pillaging just for fun."

In more recent years, the Raiders have had to address player misconduct. Cornerback Damon Arnette was released due to weapons and drug-related charges. Henry Ruggs III's career was tragically cut short following a drunk-driving incident that resulted in a fatality. More recently, players like Charles Snowden and Rodric Teamer were arrested on DUI charges, leading to their release. Chandler Jones was also involved in multiple arrests in 2023 concerning domestic violence protective orders, prompting the team to place him on the non-football illness list due to "concerning" behavior.

Kubiak expressed satisfaction with the current group, noting that the players "want to be here, that want to win, that want to change this place." He indicated that he has "a lot of tape to watch" in evaluating personnel, including decisions around the first overall pick.

The current team features players like presumptive starting quarterback Kirk Cousins and an offensive line that Kubiak aims to build into a cohesive unit. Maxx Crosby, a standout player on the field, is also noted for his positive presence off the field.

This new approach under Kubiak signals a deliberate effort to cultivate a different culture within the Raiders organization, moving away from the controversial legacy associated with the team's past.
