Raiders Activate Dont'e Thornton from Injured Reserve Amid Four-Game Losing Streak

The Las Vegas Raiders have activated second-year wide receiver Dont'e Thornton from injured reserve, a move that comes as the team grapples with a four-game losing streak. In a corresponding roster adjustment, the Raiders released defensive tackle Jonah Laulu.

The activation of Thornton on Tuesday provides the struggling offense with another potential option as the Raiders seek to halt their recent slide. Thornton's season was at risk of ending as his 21-day practice window, which began Oct. 7, was nearing its Wednesday deadline. Had he not been activated, he would have remained on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

This decision allows Thornton an opportunity to convert his physical potential into tangible contributions for the team. Raiders coach Klint Kubiak had previously indicated that Thornton needed to demonstrate readiness to contribute, and the team opted not to activate him for their recent loss to the Rams.

Thornton, a fourth-round pick in 2025 from Tennessee, was initially noted for his combination of size and speed. The challenge, however, has been translating those attributes into consistent performance against NFL defensive backs. For a Raiders receiving corps looking for reliable production beyond Tre Tucker, the opportunity is present.

Thornton's return to health means he must now earn playing time and the coaching staff's trust. He needs to provide the Raiders with a reason to keep him on the field, whether through stretching defenses, creating separation, or becoming a dependable target for quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The departure of Laulu had become more probable in recent weeks; he was inactive for the game against the Rams, a matchup that extended the Raiders' losing streak and heightened scrutiny on the team's personnel decisions.

The wide receiver room could see further changes, as Jack Bech is also eligible to come off the injured list after suffering a broken forearm in Week 3 against the Saints.

For Thornton, the immediate uncertainty surrounding his season is resolved. The Raiders have preserved his chance to play, but his future performance will determine if he becomes a significant factor in the team's efforts to improve its standing.
