Zoe Graham, wife of singer Rag'n'Bone Man, received a suspended prison sentence for causing serious injury by careless driving after a high-speed collision in August 2023 that left Samantha Keen with life-altering injuries. Graham, 38, was attempting to illegally overtake a line of traffic behind a tractor on a stretch of road in East Sussex when she collided with Mrs. Keen's car.
Mrs. Keen, a single parent, was driving her three children to an animal rescue center at the time of the crash. The impact, estimated at around 55 mph, sent her vehicle spinning into a ditch. Mrs. Keen suffered a broken ankle, severe soft tissue injuries, facial and head cuts, and damage to her hip and leg. Her children also sustained cuts and bruises.
Graham was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, by Judge David Rennie. This decision has drawn criticism from Mrs. Keen's family, who state that Graham has never apologized for her actions. According to a source, Graham did not express remorse even when present in the hospital's A&E department where Mrs. Keen was being treated. The family also expressed frustration that Graham initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and continued to drive for nearly three years while Mrs. Keen was recovering from her injuries and dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder.
During the court proceedings, Graham broke down in tears and expressed remorse for the crash, attributing her actions to anxiety about being late to pick up her own children and past experiences with domestic abuse. However, the victim's family has maintained that any apology offered was an attempt to avoid prison.
Mrs. Keen had been raising her children alone following the death of her husband the previous year. The crash occurred shortly after she had been hoping to create happy memories with her children during the summer holidays. The court heard that compensation for the crash will be addressed in a civil court at a later date. Graham, who is married to Rory Graham, known as Rag'n'Bone Man, has three children from a previous relationship, while the singer has one son.
