Radio Hosts Nic Kelly and Loren Barry Announce Show's Axing

The Hot Hits hosts Nic Kelly and Loren Barry announced live on air Tuesday night that their show has been axed and will not return in 2027. A tearful Loren Barry explained that she would be leaving the company entirely, with Nic Kelly also departing.

"Next year, this show won’t be coming back with us. I will be leaving the company completely at this stage – there are a few little bits and pieces to work out for other team members and Nic," Barry said.

Kelly added that they had received the news of the show's cancellation just the day before and were still processing the shock. "Obviously pretty shattering for both of us, but this is the radio industry and it happens to all of us at some point... it's tough," he stated.

Barry also reflected on her on-air comments about her earnings, suggesting it may have made her a "target." "When you make outlandish jokes... maybe you get a target on your back!" she quipped.

The hosts' colleagues and industry friends expressed their support in the comments section. The recently axed Carrie and Tommy Show called it "such sad news for a wonderful show and an even better team." Presenter Mitch Churi added, "Not many get to leave this business with a legacy like you have made. A massive loss for radio and for emerging Aussie artists."

The cancellation comes as a surprise, as Kelly and Barry were previously considered bright young stars in commercial radio. In March, they were even discussed as potential replacements for "The Kyle and Jackie O Show." At the time, former program director Craig Bruce praised their genuine chemistry and passion, telling news.com.au that they were natural communicators with massive potential.
