MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow has described former President Donald Trump as "emotionally incontinent," suggesting his ability to communicate and form political concepts has significantly declined since his return to private life. Maddow made these remarks during a discussion with Nicolle Wallace on MS NOW, where she elaborated on her assessment of Trump's current political standing.
Maddow argued that Trump's communication has devolved to a point where he struggles "to find the words that are supposed to go together to make the nouns" and is incapable of "form[ing] a political concept." She cited Trump's recent opposition to a housing bill as an example of this perceived decline. According to Maddow, Trump's reaction stemmed from a realization that the legislation "wasn’t about him," leading him to oppose it.
"He could be a little strategic before, but he’s become so, I think, emotionally incontinent that he can’t control his own feelings enough to make politically savvy decisions," Maddow stated. She posited that this has forced Republicans to "make politics around him rather than through him," a shift from previous years.
This dynamic, Maddow suggested, positions Trump as "the biggest bulwark between them and potential electoral success in November." She concluded that the former president's current state is the reason Republicans are "such a mess right now."
