Alfie Watts, winner of the BBC's Race Across the World, experienced significant frustration when his car was broken into and his laptop stolen just before a series of school talks focused on mental health and resilience. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Cardiff.
Watts, 22, stated that he had left his vehicle for approximately 20 minutes when an individual smashed a window and took the laptop bag, which was located under the driver's seat. He described the theft as a "low point," noting that it was the third unrelated theft he had experienced in the past two months.
The laptop contained presentations Watts uses when speaking to young people about positivity, resilience, and mental health. However, the material had been backed up online, ensuring that the theft would not impact three scheduled talks on Wednesday, including one at Mount Stuart Primary School.
Watts previously traveled over 9,300 miles across eastern Asia with his friend Owen Wood to win the fourth series of Race Across the World, facing numerous challenges but no thefts during the competition. He emphasized that this car break-in was not an indictment of the people of Wales or Cardiff but a source of "enormous frustration."
