A raccoon was observed acquiring food from fans at Citi Field, the home stadium of the New York Mets, during a recent game against the San Diego Padres. Video footage shared by a fan shows the animal reaching through a hole in the bleachers to take peanut shells and later a hot dog.

The incident occurred while the Mets, who have the highest payroll in Major League Baseball this season, have struggled on the field with a losing record. Fans have noted that the team's performance has been difficult to watch, with the raccoon's actions providing an unexpected source of entertainment.

Scott Reynolds, who recorded the video, stated that he and his family noticed the raccoon's paw emerging from a small opening in the concrete. "We soon realized that it was a raccoon," Reynolds said. "We laughed and enjoyed the extra show."

The Mets ultimately won the game against the Padres with a score of 4-2. The report noted that raccoons have been observed becoming more domesticated, with the author suggesting a humorous possibility of raccoons becoming a regular, perhaps even legal, addition to ballpark events.
