Eight weeks after reality television personality Jake Hall died in a fall through a glass-paned wooden door in Mallorca, an official cause of death has yet to be determined, leaving friends and acquaintances seeking clarity.
Hall, 35, who gained fame on the show "The Only Way is Essex" (TOWIE), was found lifeless by paramedics after the incident at a rented townhouse in Santa Margalida on May 5. The Spanish Civil Guard initially stated the death appeared accidental, with no immediate signs of foul play. However, subsequent inquests in both Mallorca and the UK have proven inconclusive, with two post-mortem examinations failing to establish a definitive cause.
Friends have described a troubling "wall of silence" surrounding the case, noting the unusual lack of public information about the incident and the identities of those present. Hall had reportedly invited several well-dressed individuals, believed to be residents of Mallorca, back to his rented home after spending the evening with them. Reports suggest the gathering may have been fueled by alcohol and drugs, though a neighbor reported not seeing any such substances at the property.
One account from a British model who was present described "tension in the air" and Hall being in an "argumentative mood" after a "crazy night." However, this account has been questioned, and investigators reportedly did not recognize the description of Hall becoming agitated, possibly due to substances.
Further complicating the investigation, two post-mortem examinations have been inconclusive. The coroner's court in East London has requested toxicology reports, police statements, and witness accounts from Spanish authorities, the status of which is unknown.
Hall, who had struggled with drink and drug use and blamed TOWIE in part for his difficulties, had a history of visiting Mallorca, which he referred to as his "healing island." He had spent part of his childhood on the island, where his parents previously owned a hotel. His ex-partner, Misse Beqiri, who was coincidentally in Mallorca at the time of his death, expressed regret that he hadn't called her for help that night, but also described his death as an accident, noting his devotion to their daughter.
In addition to personal struggles, Hall was facing financial difficulties. His fashion label, Prévu, went into administration in March 2023 with significant debts, and his second clothing line, "By Jake Hall," was liquidated last year. He had also reportedly been scammed out of £100,000 by a New York art dealer. Hall had recently turned to art as a source of solace, working on abstract canvases and planning artistic retreats.
His family has been granted "interested person" status at the inquest, allowing them to examine evidence and question witnesses at a future hearing, which is expected in about six months. Friends and associates hope that those present on the night of his death will come forward to provide a clearer account of the events that led to his demise.
