A closely contested Democratic primary for New York State Assembly District 30 in Queens concluded with a seven-vote victory for Patrick Martinez after a hand recount was completed on Wednesday.

MARTINEZ declared victory after the recount, which his campaign announced to The Post. He garnered 2,784 votes to Shamsul Haque's 2,777. Haque, a former NYPD sergeant, had positioned himself as a progressive candidate.

MARTINEZ, the endorsed candidate of the Queens Democratic Committee and nephew of former borough Democratic leader Joe Crowley, thanked voters and his campaign team. "Whether you voted for me or not, I will represent all of you," Martinez said in a statement. He also acknowledged his opponent's contributions to the race and expressed a desire to work with them for the district's benefit.

The race's tight margin triggered a series of recounts. On Election Night, June 23, Martinez held a 13-vote lead over Haque. This narrow margin necessitated an automatic recount, which further reduced Martinez's advantage to just two votes, ultimately leading to the final hand recount that confirmed his win.
