Queen Violet, a popular West Hollywood restaurant and influencer hub, is closing its doors on August 31 after five years of operation. The Asian fusion eatery announced its closure via a sign posted on its premises this week.

"To Our Queen Violet Family,” the sign reads. “Thank you for your love and support over the past 5+ years. We’re so grateful to have you with us as we begin our new journey.”

Queen Violet, located at 8543 Santa Monica Blvd, opened in the fall of 2021 and quickly gained a following among influencers and aspirational patrons drawn to its visually appealing interior, particularly its flower-adorned entrance and patio, which became frequent backdrops for social media posts. The restaurant's presentation and vibrant atmosphere contributed to its popularity.

The reason for the closure remains unclear, though the 2,600-square-foot establishment was listed for sale in January 2025. The asking price was $255,000, and the listing included a Type 41 beer-and-wine license with a monthly rent of $13,000. The property was described as fully built out and ready for a new restaurant or retail venture, with permitted operating hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The restaurant, helmed by chef and owner Sara Thongchoet, featured a menu with dishes like avocado toast, truffle fries, butterfly pea cocktails, and crispy Brussels sprouts. Thongchoet’s culinary journey began with apartment dinners in 2010, from which she cultivated a community and developed her recipes before opening Queen Violet.

Situated in West Hollywood's Rainbow District, Queen Violet was also known for its support of the LGBTQ+ community. The restaurant's name itself alludes to this allyship, as violet is the color representing the LGBTQ+ community in Thailand.

Queen Violet directed patrons to its new venture, BKK TABLE, located at 8101 1/2 Beverly Blvd. According to its Instagram, BKK TABLE offers "Authentic street-style dishes packed with bold flavors and crafted to let you eat like a true local in Los Angeles." The new restaurant is also available for delivery via DoorDash.
