Queen Rania of Jordan marked her 56th birthday on August 31 with a portrait released by the Royal Hashemite Court. The occasion follows closely on the heels of the birth of her twin granddaughters.

In a striking new portrait, the Queen appeared effortlessly chic, dressed in blue jeans and a white top, accessorized with earrings and a fitness watch. Her hair was styled in an updo, and her makeup remained subtle.

Queen Rania expressed her joy on Instagram, sharing a photograph with her four granddaughters—Princesses Amina, Iman, Talia, and Rania. "Spending my birthday in the best way imaginable. Love you, my favourite little girls," she wrote.

The birth of the twin granddaughters adds to the growing Jordanian royal family. Princess Iman, Queen Rania's eldest daughter, welcomed twin girls with her husband, Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, earlier this month. One of the twins was named Rania, paying homage to the Queen.

The Royal Hashemite Court announced the birth of the twins, Talia and Rania, on August 14, 2026. This marks the King and Queen's third and fourth grandchildren in just over two years.

Princess Iman and Thermiotis, a New York-based financer, kept their pregnancy private for much of the year. Queen Rania had shared a photo of Princess Iman with her baby bump in July, hinting at the joyous news.

Princess Iman is the eldest of Queen Rania and King Abdullah II's four children. The couple also has Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Salma, and Prince Hashem. King Abdullah II and Queen Rania married on June 10, 1993.

Queen Rania, born on August 31, 1970, to Palestinian parents in Kuwait, pursued higher education at the American University in Cairo, earning a business degree in 1991. Her early career included roles at Citibank and Apple before she met King Abdullah II at a dinner party in 1993. They married five months later.

Her path to becoming Queen was not initially foreseen, as King Hussein altered the line of succession in 1999, naming his son Abdullah as heir. Princess Iman's husband, Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, is of Greek descent and works as a Managing Partner for a Venture Capital fund in the U.S.
