Queen Elizabeth II's Bespoke Bentley Mulsanne Goes Up for Auction
The 2016 Bentley Mulsanne, customized for the late monarch, is expected to fetch up to £400,000.
A 2016 Bentley Mulsanne, custom-built for Queen Elizabeth II, has been put up for auction with an estimated sale price of £400,000. The vehicle, which served the late monarch on numerous official engagements, is the only one of its kind to have entered private ownership.
The extended wheelbase Mulsanne was registered in October 2016 and was frequently photographed carrying the Queen. Special commissions for Her Majesty included a custom tray sized to fit her Launer London handbag, which replaced the front center armrests. While this tray and an inlaid Royal Coat of Arms were removed at the request of the Royal Mews, other bespoke fittings remain in the rear cabin.
These include twine and Cumbrian green leather accents, rich burr walnut veneers, and deep lambswool carpeting. The car is powered by a 6.8-liter V8 engine and, during royal engagements, rarely exceeded 9 mph. The Queen was known to be a motoring enthusiast.
<]]>Freddie Woodd, a car specialist at Broad Arrow Auctions, described the vehicle as a "significant piece of motoring history" and a testament to the Queen's "impeccable taste." He noted the extraordinary opportunity for the public to own a car so closely associated with the Royal Family, calling it a "truly unique, and surely unrepeatable, chance."
<]]>The car, registered with the number plate DG66 OKM during its royal service, was used for engagements such as British Champions Day and the Centenary of the Government Communications Headquarters. Its active royal service concluded in 2019 when a newer Mulsanne was delivered to the Queen. The car was then returned to Bentley's Crewe headquarters.
<]]>After the Queen's death in September 2022, the Mulsanne was acquired by a private collector in March 2024. It has since been maintained by Bentley dealership Jack Barclay and has accumulated only 6,000 miles. In 2024, the car won the Bentley Drivers Club Trophy at the Concours of Elegance and several other awards.
The online auction is scheduled to run from October 5 to 14.
