Author Peter James, a favorite of Queen Camilla, has proposed that the Queen and King Charles III could potentially appear in the ITV adaptation of his popular Roy Grace novels. James, whose crime novels follow the exploits of Sussex Police detective superintendent Roy Grace, suggested the royal couple could play themselves in the series.
James made the remarks at the launch of his latest novel, "Dead In Three Two One," at Brighton Palace Pier. He stated his intention to ask Camilla if she would like to portray herself in "Grace." The author also expressed a wish to see King Charles involved, noting that the King has prior acting experience from his school days.
Camilla has a past connection to the "Grace" series, having visited the set of an episode titled "Dead Tomorrow" in 2021. During her visit, she reportedly offered to perform a cameo role as a corpse. James, however, hopes for a more active role for the Queen, describing her as "up for a laugh" and possessing a great sense of humor.
In James's previous thriller, "The Hawk Is Dead," the King and Queen were described as aiding Grace in solving the murder of a royal aide. James envisions the royal couple appearing in a similar capacity, or perhaps in more integrated roles, within the ongoing television series. The series stars John Simm as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.
The author's invitation comes amid reports that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, might be joining the cast of a Guy Ritchie series. However, an insider reportedly dismissed such possibilities, stating the show did not require "stunt casting." The prospect of royal cameos in a crime drama offers a different kind of celebrity involvement in television.
